Cosmo’s olive tones at this mid-value position tend to read slightly more yellow and somewhat less dusty than the DMC version — there’s more warmth and more yellow brightness, but less of the muting quality that gives DMC olives their distinctive earthy, dried-vegetation character. This difference is the same pattern seen across the Cosmo olive family: the olives as a group read slightly more vivid and less subdued than their DMC counterparts, which may or may not be a problem depending on the design intent. For camouflage-inspired pieces and military history embroidery where the specific dusty-muted quality of authentic olive drab is important to the design’s period accuracy, the slightly more vivid Cosmo version may read as fresher and less weathered than the DMC original. For botanical foliage work and American folk art where any warm medium olive reads correctly, the practical difference is small.
