Flowers — DMC Color Palette Guide
Flowers are the most popular subject in cross-stitch for good reason — they let you work with beautiful colors and forgiving shapes. But getting petals to look dimensional requires the right shade progression. These palettes cover the most commonly stitched flowers with colors that work together naturally.
Roses & Red Flowers
Lavender & Purple Blooms
Sunflowers & Yellow Flowers
Leaves & Stems
Wildflowers & Pastels
Tips for Using This Palette
- • Every flower needs at least 3 petal shades — a shadow, a midtone, and a highlight where light hits.
- • Leaves should have their own 3-shade gradient too. Flat green leaves make beautiful flowers look amateur.
- • For rose petals, work from deep crimson (321) at the base through medium pink (3326) to near-white at the edges.
- • Add a single stitch of DMC 3078 (very light golden yellow) at the center of daisies for a realistic look.
Thread conversions are approximate — always compare a small stitched sample when switching brands. See individual color pages for full Anchor, Madeira, Cosmo, and Sullivans equivalents.
