DMC 738 to Cosmo: Thread Conversion

Cosmo 307 is a close match for DMC 738. Cosmo’s version can read slightly more golden-yellow in certain lighting conditions, which shifts the tan character toward straw rather than the warm neutral tan of the DMC original. The difference is the same type of drift seen elsewhere in the Cosmo tan and brown range: a slight push toward warmer yellow-gold at the expense of the pink-neutral warmth that distinguishes genuine tan from golden-yellow. For portrait work where 738 provides skin-tone mid-light values, this slight golden shift can cause the skin reads as a touch more golden or sallow than the intended warm-neutral. For animal fur sequences where 738 is the pale-coat highlight before moving toward 739, the slightly more golden Cosmo version may read as slightly different in temperature from the deeper tan values if those use DMC. The sensible approach for large fill areas where 738 is establishing the primary pale-tan tone of an animal coat or sandy landscape is to sample Cosmo 307 in your actual working light and alongside the other tan values in your palette before purchasing in quantity. Under warm incandescent light the golden shift will be amplified; under cooler daylight or LED light it may reduce. For designs where any warm pale tan reads correctly and the specific neutral-warm quality is not critical, Cosmo 307 is a workable close substitute.
